# Excel Files Open

#### <span class="ts2">Export files to open as Excel files</span>

<span class="ts0">When trying to open up files downloaded from the system, it tries to open up XML files in the browser. This does not render correctly.</span>

<span class="ts0">This happens if this is the first time one is using the system or Microsoft upgrades or upgraded to Windows 11 and now all your defaults are back to standard.</span>

<span class="ts0">The XML file is trying to open in MS Edge.</span>

<span class="ts0">Methods to read file</span>

##### <span class="ts11">Method 1</span>

<span class="ts0">Download the file, go to Save as to your local hard drive.</span>

<span class="ts0">Then open up Excel and then find the file to open. Open up file.</span>

##### <span class="ts11">Method 2</span>

<span class="ts0">You can set your Windows to open up XML files as an Excel file in Windows apps.</span>

<span class="ts0">Steps</span>

<span class="ts0">Download a file from the system as per Method 1</span>

<span class="ts0">Find the file via windows explorer</span>

<span class="ts0">Right click on file</span>

<span class="ts0">Go to look for another app on this PC, if you cannot find Excel as per number 1 below</span>

<span class="ts0">Click on number 2 to Choose another app in order to find Excel</span>

<span class="ts0">This may require some assistance from your IT department as there are various versions of Excel and they are located in different places in Windows.</span>

<span class="ts0">Find Excel.exe</span>

<span class="ts0">Set for default</span>

<span class="ts0">After you have opened up the Excel file, close it down again</span>

<span class="ts0">Right click on the XML file</span>

<span class="ts0">This time you will see the Excel icon</span>

<span class="ts0">Before you click on this, click on Choose another app</span>

<span class="ts0">But before you click on this</span>

<span class="ts0">Put a tick on - Always open file with this app</span>

<span class="ts0">Then click on Excel</span>

<span class="ts0">Set the default for file type .xml</span>
